Matteo is an easygoing man with a sunny disposition. He tends to filter everything through humor, and this makes it easier for him to make fast friends and get along well with most folk. In reality, he isn't nearly as confident or laid-back as he appears.
Far too trusting, Matteo has never seemed to learn that not everyone he meets is truly good at heart. Ever the optimist, even to his own detriment, he continues to give people the benefit of the doubt. He's quite capable of pointing out injustices around him, but loses all ability to see once it's applied to him. That paired with his inability to open up and express negative emotions around others leads to him, regularly, being too accommodating to those who would take advantage of a kind heart.
Simply put, Matteo is an anxious guy just trying to figure out how to cope with what he is - in the literal and figurative sense.
